"We Build for the Future – and the Equipment Must Match"
Since 1962, Mathias Bjørge AS has been synonymous with quality Norwegian seafood. Starting with Salted and dried cod on the island of Ellingsøy outside Ålesund, this family-owned company has grown into a full-scale seafood producer covering Salted and dried cod, king crab and now salmon. As they take their next major step with a brand new salmon production facility, they needed equipment that could keep up. They found it in the Sæplast ECO 460L tubs.
Always Searching for the Next Step
For Mathias Bjørge AS, standing still has never been an option. The company started with dried salted cod in 1962, expanded into king crab in the early 2000s, and has continuously looked for ways to grow. When the opportunity to acquire land for expansion came in 2017, the idea of adding salmon to their portfolio began to take shape. For a family business that has always believed in having multiple legs to stand on, salmon felt like a natural next move. "It can be challenging to operate within the food industry in Norway, and we believe this category will strengthen the family business going forward," says Henning Bjørge.
But behind every product and every decision is a clear philosophy: quality starts with the people. "Competence, ownership and pride in the work is what makes the difference," Henning explains. The new salmon facility represents not just a new product line, but a statement about the kind of company Mathias Bjørge AS wants to be in the future.
Equipment That Builds for the Future
When equipping the new salmon facility, Mathias Bjørge AS had clear requirements. The equipment needed to be robust enough to handle high workloads over time, support efficient logistics and production flow, and meet strict hygiene and cleaning standards. "We build for the future, not just for today. The equipment must hold the same standard," Henning says. The Sæplast ECO 460L tubs met all of these requirements, while also being 8 kg lighter. Solid and proven quality was the foundation, but what truly set the solution apart was the combination of practical benefits that make a real difference in daily operations. The use of defined colors for different product categories has given the team better control over product sorting in production. Internal logistics have become more efficient, and the support for RFID reading provides better control of product flow and traceability in key parts of the production process. For a company that works closely with its production, that level of control makes a difference.
A Sustainable Choice for a Growing Business
For Mathias Bjørge AS, the decision to go with Sæplast ECO 460L was not only about
performance. Sustainability is increasingly becoming part of how they think about every
investment they make. "There is a sustainability perspective here that we believe will become
more and more important going forward," Henning notes. The ECO 460L tubs are made from
recycled polyethylene and are fully recyclable at end of life, making them a natural fit for a
company that takes its environmental responsibilities seriously. As Mathias Bjørge AS
continues to grow and expand its product range, having the right equipment in place will remain
an important part of their operations.
