Agrosuper Chile: Improving Safety, Hygiene, and Operational Reliability with PE660 Containers

Supporting High Standards in Food Processing

Agrosuper is one of Chile’s leading food producers, operating under some of the most rigorous food safety and hygiene standards in the region. At its Elaboradora de Alimentos Doñihue facility in Pudahuel, Metropolitan Region, these standards are enforced across every stage of sausage and processed meat production.

In this environment, containers are not a passive piece of equipment. They are a critical part of daily operations, moving raw materials through multiple production stages while supporting strict hygiene controls and safe handling requirements.

For Agrosuper, container performance directly impacts product integrity, operator safety, and overall process reliability.

When Containers Start Limiting Operations

Before adopting the PE660, the Pudahuel facility relied on conventional rotomolded containers. While adequate initially, these containers became a growing operational constraint as production volumes increased and hygiene requirements tightened.

The production team faced recurring issues including deformation under repeated heavy use, limited service life, and incompatibility with existing tipping equipment. These problems created safety concerns for operators and introduced unnecessary variability into material handling workflows.

At a certain scale, these issues were no longer tolerable. The plant required a container solution that could integrate seamlessly with existing equipment while maintaining structural integrity under continuous use.

Safety and Hygiene as Core Requirements

At the Doñihue facility, food safety and operator safety are inseparable. Containers are handled continuously using forklifts and pallet jacks, moved between processing zones, and stored according to strict hygiene protocols.

Every container must be stable when stacked, easy to maneuver, and simple to clean thoroughly. Any weakness in container design introduces risk, whether through handling instability or sanitation challenges.

As one member of the production team explains, compatibility with tipping equipment and safe handling for operators were essential requirements. The plant needed containers that could perform reliably every day without deformation or safety compromises.

Key requirements identified by the team included smooth interior surfaces for effective sanitation, structural rigidity for heavy handling, stable stacking for safe storage, and clear allocation by product and processing area to support traceability and hygiene zoning.

Employee Safety with Stackable Containers

The PE660 in Daily Production

The PE660 container addressed these requirements through its triple wall polyethylene construction and closed cell core design. This construction provides high resistance to deformation and impact, even under continuous forklift and tipping operations.

At the Pudahuel plant, PE660 containers move through the facility around the clock. From raw material intake to intermediate handling and storage, they have delivered consistent performance without warping, cracking, or loss of functionality.

The production team has also seen practical operational improvements, including reliable compatibility with tipping equipment, faster and more effective cleaning due to smooth internal surfaces, and safe, stable stacking that improves space utilization.

These benefits have allowed the plant to standardize container use across processes, reducing variability and improving overall workflow efficiency.

Durability That Supports Sustainability

Durability has been a defining factor in Agrosuper’s experience with the PE660. Unlike previous containers that required frequent replacement, PE660 units have remained in active service year after year under demanding conditions.

When damage does occur, the containers can be repaired and returned to service rather than discarded. This repairability supports Agrosuper’s sustainability objectives while also reducing total cost of ownership.

According to the production team, containers delivered years ago are still in full use today. That longevity has had a measurable impact on both operational costs and environmental footprint.

A Proven Long Term Solution

Agrosuper’s use of the PE660 began in 2019 and has continued through recent deliveries. Importantly, all containers remain in active service and perform to the same operational standards regardless of delivery year.

For the Pudahuel facility, this consistency has translated into greater confidence in daily operations, improved safety for operators, and sustained compliance with strict food safety requirements.

The PE660 is no longer viewed as just a container. It has become a dependable component of Agrosuper’s processing infrastructure, supporting stable operations today while aligning with the company’s long term efficiency and sustainability goals.
